~Birds-Downy Woodpecker

Downy Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker (male)

I believe this woodpecker is a Downy, based on its small size, small bill, and conspicuous tuft at base of bill.

A family of, two adults and one young, choose my yard to call home for the summer. They enjoy the suet stations I have placed around the yard. I love hearing their sweet call.

Happy Birding!

    1. Hi Anne Marie! They are cool to watch and they have a wonderful vocal sound. Hope you have enjoyed your summer and are looking forward to fall. I know I am! Love and hugs!

  1. Sheila-
He is a beauty! We usually have a pair of Downys that stay close by in the trees that line our wetland… but, for some reason they didn’t stay this summer. It is a joy to see this guy posing so nicely for you ❤

    1. Hi Jane, I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed seeing my little Downy. Two of them are still visiting daily, eating suet. In the past, I would see them for a few seconds and they would be gone. This is the first year they have stayed around; they don’t seem too afraid of the activity around the house (garage door opening), etc.
Wishing you many great bird sightings!
