~For awhile this is where we will be, my pack and me~

Hobe Sound is where we will be,
Sunshine, birds and manatees we hope to see.

Long walks in the woods,
Always bring joyful moods.

Strolls in the sand along the sea,
Fills our hearts with pure glee.

We can hear the mighty roar,
Of pounding waves against the shore.

A step outside at night,
Offers mythical characters in plain sight.

A river in the sky with stars galore,
Reach up and touch Orion’s Sword.

Such a beautiful locality,
Cool breezes from ocean air offering vitality.

For awhile this is where we will be,
My pack and me.

Never in my life have I seen so many swallows in one location! I believe these are Tree Swallows.
Driving in Jonathan Dickinson State Park we spotted these swallows. We stopped to watch them feed on bugs.

Even with cloudy skies, rain and cool temperatures we have enjoyed our first full week in Hobe Sound. The boat ride was taken on Thursday in the Intra-Coastal Waterway between Hobe Sound and Jupiter, Florida.

Enjoy the Journey!

  1. How dare you, Sheila, vacation at this beautiful site and post gorgeous pictures to us frozen ones in the Midwest!!! Well, I don’t blame you! Have fun!! Those birds….it’s like Hitchcock’s movie, yikes!!!

    1. H Barb! I will try really hard to send you some of our 80 plus temperatures, we are experiencing here in southern Florida. I am about to go “crazy” with the humidity!! 🙂

  2. Looks like a beautiful place to call home for awhile. Love the bird photos….I’m struggling to capture any decent shots of birds. Don’t know why they won’t hold still 🙂

    1. Hobe Sound is a beautiful area. We are about four miles (driving) from the ocean and about one mile as the Crows, Vultures and Osprey fly!! These darn birds just don’t stay still do they. I bet you will capture some beautiful photos of them – keep trying!

  3. Another WOW for sure! Absolutely beautiful Sheila! I’m not sure I could ever leave Hobe Sound. The picture of the Ibis ( adult and immature) is outstanding. I haven’t seen an Ibis.
And I will never tire of the palm trees and the setting sun! I’m glad you will be there for awhile….will be looking forward to your next post.

Have a great week. We head out today and none to soon…..it’s cold!

    1. Gay, I hope you reach some warmer temperatures! It is pretty darn hot to this Colorado lady. I wish it was a bit cooler! I hope you get to see an Ibis soon! I am wanting to find a Spoon-bill to photo. I have seen one, but have never taken a photo!

Enjoy Texas and birding! Travel Safely!!

  4. Oh what a wonderful place to be. Enjoy and celebrate life.
A very happy and blessed New years to you and yours.
Amazing shot and I love the sun through the palm trees on onto the world-so peaceful.

    1. Thank you Ruth! The sunsets here are amazing and the dark skies are a real treat. One would think that this area of the country would not be good for stargazing, but just to the east is the “dark” ocean! It is darker here than at home in Colorado!! Talk with you soon!

  5. Can’t wait to get further south. It has been in the 30’s here and with nothing much to do in a beach community like Destin, the days have been dragging. We have yet to see a notable sunset. At least we are not braving the midwest temps right now. Hobe Sound looks lovely!

    1. Hi LuAnn, don’t feel bad, we are having lots of cloudy and rainy days! It isn’t fun when you can’t get out and explore and take photos. Even enjoying morning coffee and evening wine outside is not happening. The weather down here is so different than last year. I hope you get to someplace warm and sunny and experience beautiful sunsets!!
