Location: Myakka River State Park, Sarasota, Florida
This morning the Myakka River was filled with birds searching for breakfast. This Wood Stork was fun to watch as she hunted for a morsel. She turned up a good sized fish, which took her a few minutes to get down.

The photo below, of a Wood Stork, was taken last evening as the sun was setting over the Myakka River.

This bird fascinates me. It’s so unusual looking. Great captures of it.
Hi Ida, thank you! They are fascinating. They are funny looking; however when moving, fishing or grooming they can appear graceful! Thanks for stopping by.
When is your book coming out…..!! 😉
You write the children’s book and I will supply the photos! 🙂
Great photos of the Wood Stork, but the little Grebe is really cute. 🙂
I so agree with you. I love these little grebes! There were about seven or so of them and I enjoyed watching them drive for food.
maybe the Grebe wants to be a stork when it grows up….. they are pretty strange looking up close though….
I bet it might have been, but it would turn from cute to not so cute! ;-). They are strange looking indeed!
You take such amazing photos! I love seeing a big stork in the wild and living in Florida, we have a chance to see such a variety of birds. I posted a rare sighting that we had about a week ago. I didn’t get very good photos but it was exciting! Hope you can stop by to visit! Thanks, Diane
Thank you so much! I will stop by your site for sure! We love traveling in Florida; you have such gorgeous areas and the birding is fantastic! 🙂
