I took this photo on September 5, 2013 in the Big Thompson Canyon. I don’t remember ever seeing a Red-tailed Bee. I was glad to see so many.

I can see the focus trails of a long lens but physically how close were you to get this great photo?
Marshall, I am not exactly sure how close I was. I was walking down a path and spotted bees feeding on these bushes, which were right next to the path. There were plenty of Honey and Red-tailed bees buzzing around; not keeping still for very long. I was within three or four feet probably. On this day I took a total of 178 photos, some before I left home and the majority during the time I was walking around up the canyon. I love the way the tips of the flower seem to be wrapped around the bee. Thanks for stopping by!
