if only it would stay put

fast, long and slender

eagle eye spots a morsel

off and running she goes

"I think I will stretch, before I take off."

Why don't you stay awhile?

I took these photos while at Copper Breaks State Park. We were driving out of the park and i noticed her sitting on this fence post. I got out of the car and was able to capture these shots before, as you can see, she darted off!

    1. Thank you Ruth!
      It is a Greater Roadrunner.
A large ground-dwelling cuckoo streaked with brown and white. Speeds across the desert on long, strong legs. (from my birding book)

    1. I will never forget the first time I saw a roadrunner. We would travel, by car, on vacation from CO to LA to visit family. One time, years ago we were traveling down the interstate and I spotted one along the side of the road. We turned around and did manage to see it again, but not really close.

I hope you get to see one. Visit Catalina State Park in Oro Valley and you will see them! Great hiking there!! 🙂
