Mehaffey Park History
Mehaffey Park History

A dear friend treated me to a belated birthday lunch today. She picked up bagel sandwiches from Einstein Bagels, which included a bowl of fruit and a dill pickle. All were yummy! We met at one of the picnic shelters at Mehaffey Park; Loveland’s brand new park. (Read about the history of Mehaffey Park from the sign above and note the request from the family.)

While waiting for Gale to arrive, I met a guy and his seven month old Sheba Inu puppy. Needless to say the puppy was adorable. A happy little guy, because he gets to walk to the park from his house everyday.

A lady came along and sat down at another picnic table, soon she came over to our table and sat down with Jeff and I. Of course she had to pet the puppy.  She told me she knew me from somewhere. After a few tries to figure out from where, we came to the conclusion it was from playing Pickleball! Jackie sat and talked with us until her friend Robin arrived along with Pebbles her Chihuahua dog.

I have never met Robin before, nor Jeff, but might see them again sometime at the park. I met Jackie and her husband playing Pickleball several weeks ago. I will see Jackie in the morning on the Pickleball court beginning at 7:30am.

From our picnic table, looking west, Gale and I could see Long and Meeker Peaks in the distance. Brilliant blue skies dotted with white clouds leading the way as we gazed upon these beautiful peaks.

I could hear Canada geese down by the pond talking among themselves, perhaps deciding when to head south for the winter. Not far away, pure joy in the form of giggles, floated in the air from kids enjoying their new playground.

I appreciate these kind of days – lunch with a dear friend, meeting new people, all while enjoying the sights and sounds of nature in a beautiful place called Loveland, Colorado.

Thanks Gale for lunch, I enjoyed it very much!

~This time last year

Around this time last year Howard and I were staying at Willard Bay State Park in Willard, Utah and while there we visited Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. Since I haven’t taken any interesting photos here at home, I thought I would share with you a few from our visit to this gorgeous area. To view my original posts, visit these web-sites Bear River and More from Bear River and Willard Bay.

We had an exciting time traveling last summer, visited some beautiful areas and saw lots of wildlife; however, so far this spring and summer it has been wonderful just relaxing here at home.  I need to capture a few photos from around here to share!

~Rocky Mountain National Park-Our walk around Sprague Lake

As we walked around the lake every now and then a cold gust of wind would make us want to hunker down. We would bring jacket hoods up and hands would seek the warmth of pockets. The gusts of wind wouldn’t last and the beauty surrounding us motivated us onward.

There were some hardy souls in the lake fly fishing. What a lovely way to spend a few hours.

As we were driving out of Rocky toward Estes Park, seeking a late lunch, we saw three young bull Elk taking a snooze. This is the featured image from above; this young bull Elk looked very tired. He was laying his head on a tree stump.

More photos to come! I hope you enjoyed your visit to Sprague Lake today.

~Little Manatee River State Park~

Little Manatee River State Park, is a quite state park located in Wilmauma, Florida. It offers miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails along with fishing, boating and swimming.

We enjoyed our time at Little Manatee River, which we spent mostly hiking. On one of our hikes we encountered a golden colored snake, which we had never seen before. After looking it up on the web we decided it might be a Golden Rat Snake. We admired its beauty as it slithered off into the brush. No photo, it was too fast!

I have to say, not much in the way of birding at Little Manatee River. Hopefully, it had more to do with the time of year than the habitat; however, I have noticed that when an area has a lot of Palmettos the birds are scarce, just not enough for them to eat.

It was time for us to leave Little Manatee River, so this morning we packed up and headed to our next adventure.

Until next time…
