~Early morning walk~

A few scenes from our walk this morning in Rocky Bayou State Park near Niceville, Florida. The weather here has been cold, but the expected rain has been delayed!

We enjoyed our day today: an early morning walk through a beautiful forrest; a wonderful lunch at a family restaurant, which opened in 1954; and a visit to the Air Force Armament Museum.

Fighter pilots, flying overhead near the museum, truly entertained me this afternoon during their practice runs. They were flying the new F35 fighter jets! Take off, landing, take off – over and over again! Hopefully my photos came out and I will be able to share with you what they look like!

~What did I just catch?~

Whoa, it is a fighter!
It was amusing when all of a sudden she jumped up and back.

While on a walk today we spotted this Egret out in the marsh. The distance was really too great for me to capture detailed photos, but I wanted to share these. I noticed it was trying to eat something! If you click on the photos you might get an idea of what she caught.

Bike Trail — Many miles of bike trails in the park. Not sure I would want to walk these trails. Last year we saw a four foot Diamondback snake

Great Egret

Finally, had the opportunity to get close enough to capture a few photos of the Great Egret that has been fishing on the banks of the Tchefuncte River here in Fairview Riverside State Park. On our daily walks, I have seen this Great Egret standing perfectly still, then stealthily moving along the shore like an experienced mime.

However, unlike a mime, the Egret is not entertaining us. Instead with a skill necessary for survival and honed over time, it is hunting with focus and determination.

It gives me great pleasure to observe and photography these beautiful, regal Herons. I wish she would have caught something!

We experienced wave after wave of rain last night and this morning it is still raining. Unlike a Colorado rain, which last for a short period of time, these Louisiana rains last all day, all night and all day……
