Remember me? Your friendly guide from the Smith Oaks Rookery in High Island, Texas?
That’s me in the photo below; in case you forgot, I’am the very handsome Great Egret.
I wanted to share, with you, a few photos of my neighbors with the funny shaped bill. You might remember me telling you a little about them in my first post.
What are they doing down there?

Even though I am extremely busy here at the Rookery, trying to keep Louise happy, I noticed that Samuel and Rose do a lot of weird things with that big spoon shaped bill!

Man, Samuel is trying to poke her in the mouth!

Hmmmm, now I know exactly what they are up to. Maybe I shouldn’t show you these photos; Samuel might get angry with me. Oh what the heck, he has been angry with me before.

Fabulous shots of these gorgeous spoonbills!
Hi Karen, thanks! It was amazing seeing so many of them in one location. Previous to seeing these at Smith Oaks, I had only seen two. We hope to retire to High Island, Smith Oak Rookery next spring.
Beautiful pictures of the spoonbills! It is such a treat to see them. Thanks!
Hi Beth, it sure was a treat. I had never before filled my memory card, but I did on this day! Thanks!
Love the spoonbills. I had not seen them roosting in trees when we were in Florida, only down in the water, which makes for very difficult photos. They are always swishing those big bills from side-to-side.
LuAnn, it sure was a different view of all these nesting birds! It is a place we will visit again and again. Hopefully, next spring we will stay in High Island, Texas to be closer to this area.
Amazing capture of their life and times
Hi Marshall!! So nice to hear from you. It is so much fun to just sit and watch these guys and gals! Hope you are enjoying your travels!
High Island in the spring is always good for some whimsy! 😉
It sure is Judy; as you well know. Thanks again for posting your beautiful photos and visit to Smith Oaks! Wondering when you will return there!
Thanks for some X rated laughs this morning. I can’t wait to get back to the Gulf to try and capture more shots of the roseates. They are so unique 🙂
What the heck, a little x-rated fun to start the day! I am glad I gave you a laugh!
You would love it at the rookery and Avery Island for that matter! I hope you get a chance to visit both of these places.
Love the spoonbills Sheila! And your captions….High Island in the spring seems like the place to be!
Gay, you need to plan a trip back there! Glad you enjoyed my whimsical post! 😉
Such wonderful photos of beautiful birds!
Hi Carola, thank you very much! I am glad you enjoyed seeing them. It was thrilling to witness all these nesting birds and to watch all their interactions with each other.
